Curriculum (ACE)i
The ACE
(Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum
is a complete, pre-planned, pre-pared, multi-learning style programme
written from a biblical world view, and covers pre-school, primary,
secondary and adult education.
There are many
curricula available for home schooling parents and after more
than twenty-five years in Christian Education looking at and
evaluating the different curricula available, I have come to
the conclusion that the curriculum you choose is only as good
as it is used.
That is why
it is important that you have confidence in the curriculum that
you choose.
The Accelerated
Christian Education curriculum is the preferred curriculum endorsed
by Home Schooling NZ
because it meets the
individual needs of the student,
it equips parents to provide an excellent programme that works,
and it is very cost effective.
At Home Schooling NZ
we also recommend and introduce additional materials to
replace, supplement, compliment and enrich the ACE material. From
Apologia Science to Charlotte Mason, we will help you find the curriculum
that best fits your agenda and the particular needs of your family.

The ACE Reputation
The ACE Curriculum
is used by thousands of schools and home educators all over the
world. It has proven itself over thirty years, throughout New
Zealand and the world, withstanding the test of changing times
of educational philosophy and methodology and has produced graduates
of the highest caliber.
Universities
and tertiary institutions throughout New Zealand including the
ERO (Education Review Office), have come to recognise the integrity
and quality of the programme, and the benefit it has been to
thousands of New Zealand students.
ACE graduates
are sought after by employers and tertiary institutions because
they are known to be highly motivated people who seek to excel
in all that they do.
The ACE Programme
The programme
is based on two key components: the PACE material and Student
Convention.
PACEs - Package of Accelerated Christian Education.
The PACE is
a unit of work which takes two to three weeks to complete. Each
PACE has specific learning goals and objectives, a variety of
learning activities and built in assessments, all of which are
designed to ensure mastery of learning and to teach students
effective learning strategies.
The PACEs form
the basis of the student's learning experience, from which additional
learning activities, projects, assignments, resources and enrichment
programmes can be built.
While a simple
but effective process of completing each PACE is recommended,
it by no means limits or restricts the many ways in which this
excellent resource can be used to meet the needs of each student
and cater for their unique learning style.
The PACE format
is ideal for busy home schooling mums. It provides a pre-planned,
pre-prepared, programme that they can trust to provide
a quality education from pre school to tertiary level study.
For home schooling
parents the ACE curriculum also gives a real peace of mind.
It means that parents know they are providing a quality programme
while having the freedom to try new and innovative things.
Because ACE
provides a quality consistent programme in the essential learning
areas, the parents can relax and spend time pursuing the passions,
gifts, talents and interests of the whole family.
This is important,
because no matter how creative, imaginative and energized a parent
may be, they cannot provide everything their children need.
Many parents
come under tremendous pressure because they feel they have to
be an expert in every subject and provide programmes in every
possible subject. The ACE curriculum provides a built in specialist
teacher in all those subjects that sometimes make us feel
inadequate. This is particularly so at secondary level.
You will hear
people say that the ACE programme is too structured and regimented
for children. In fact the ACE programme is one of the most flexible
and versatile programmes available. It provides such a large
range of resources that parents can choose and select the most
appropriate PACEs for their children and ensure that they get
the right balance of quality and quantity.
If you utilise
this great resource in the way it was meant to be used, and supplement
and compliment it with other materials, then you will find that
all of your children, regardless of their learning styles, personality
traits, learning difficulties and abilities will benefit from
it.
The
Home Schooling NZ
Procedures Manual will show you how
to best utilise and work the PACE material so that all your children
will progress and achieve to their potential.
Student Convention
Student Convention
is unique to ACE and is a very important part of the ACE programme.
It is an essential resource and was developed to meet the broader
curriculum areas of Technology, The Arts, Health and Physical
Well-being.
Student Convention
provides over 170 events in seven categories:
- Athletics
- Academics
- Art
- Craft
- Music Instrumental
- Music Vocal
- Platform
Student Convention
provides students with the opportunity to use their gifts,
talents and the knowledge gained to serve and minister to
others. It also provides an essential perspective and context
in which students can remain motivated to complete their work
throughout the year.
The PACE material
and Student Convention Programme, provide a broad and
diverse range of learning activities that ensure no student
will ever get bored and that every type of learning style and
personality trait is catered for in children.
Even if your
family chooses not to participate in Student Convention, the
Student Convention Guidelines Manual can be used by parents as
the basis of an excellent extra curricula programme for their
children.
