FAQi
Q: What is Home Schooling NZ?
A:
Home Schooling NZ is administered by CENZ Foundation, a Charitable
Trust made up of highly qualified and committed people who have
a vision for training our children in the nurture and admonition
of the Lord. The board members represent Home Schooling NZ families
throughout the country and provide direction, accountability,
and a collective wisdom born out of years of service in Christian
Education.
Q: What does Home Schooling NZ have to offer?
A: Please refer to the Benefits and Features pages
of this website by clicking on the menu options the left hand
side of this website.
Q: How does Home Schooling NZ work?
A: The core service offered by Home Schooling NZ is based upon
the ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum. The ACE
curriculum has proven itself over thirty years, throughout New
Zealand and the world. It has stood the test of changing times,
educational philosophy and methodology.
Q: Do I have to be a Christian To belong to Home Schooling
NZ?
A: No, but you will find the curriculum is God-centred
and includes references to the need for salvation through Jesus
Christ. The Science curriculum is Creation-based (taking a literal
view of Genesis 1 and 2) and treats evolution as the theory it
was intended to be (albeit an erroneous one!).
Q: Do I have to be a trained teacher to home school
my children?
A: No. One of the main benefits of the ACE Curriculum
is that it equips parents with the resources and tools to deliver
a quality programmed regardless of the parents limitations or
inadequacies.
This is particularly so at secondary level, when all too often,
parents feel they have to send their children back to school
in order to provide a "proper" programme.
Q: Is Christian Education expensive?
A: No. But it does cost.
Even "free" state education costs. If your child is
to be fully involved in all that a state school offers then there
are always "activity fees", uniform and other curriculum
expenses that parents feel obligated to pay.
The amount of money you spend on your children's education will
depend on how important this is compared to other areas of your
life.
Home Schooling NZ offers a very cost effective curriculum, with support and
assistance to parents, that ensures they get great value for
the money they spend.
If you accept the government's home schooling allowance, then
this is usually more than adequate to cover all costs of belonging
to Home Schooling NZ and paying for curriculum resources and materials.
Q: Do I have to get permission to home school my child?
A: Yes. You are legally required to obtain an "Exemption
Certificate" from attendance at a registered school for
each of your children before withdrawing them from school.
This can be a daunting task but with the helps and assistance
of Home Schooling NZ this can be a straight forward process.
Q: Does my child have to Complete NCEA qualifications?
A: No. Many families using the ACE curriculum choose
to aim for one of the three levels of ACE Certificates. This
qualification has gained acceptance all over the world including
universities in NZ and the UK. The NZ Vice Chancellors
Committee has written that the ACE Year 12 and 13 certificates
are an alternative route for students to gain entry to tertiary
education. Further details are available from the CENZ Academy
office.
Q: Do I have to have special equipment?
A: No, but computers can certainly be a great help
but the ACE curriculum is paper based and computers are therefore
not essential.
A Video player will also be very helpful, particularly when the
student reaches PACE 1097 as Science, Maths and Spanish all include
one or two videos per PACE at this level. These videos make the
purchase of expensive laboratory equipment unnecessary as experiments
are carried out on the tapes.
Q: What Effect Will Home Schooling have on our family?
A: One of the most significant benefits of home educating
your children is that it builds quality relationships in the
home.
Children, and parents, develop the character and integrity necessary
to live with the same people twenty four hours a day, seven days
of the week.
It is the relationship between brothers and sisters, parents
and children that make or break a society. If children learn
to get it right at home they will get it right everywhere else.
But beware, it will also expose aspects of your family life that
may need some adjustment.
Q: What about the social side of things?
A: This question always assumes that the home schooling
family is insular and "cacooned" from the world.
Home schooling provides an opportunity to mix and socialise on
a far broader and more comprehensive way than the regular school
environment.
By the time your family goes shopping, attends church, accompanies
dad on business trips, gets involved in sport clubs, participates
in corporate home schooling support networks, competes at Student
Convention, goes to youth group, etc. their lives are full of
relationships that bring variety and challenge to their lives.
Q: Am I keeping my children from to the "real world"?
A: Yes, and so you should. Paul says in Romans 12 v
1,2 "we are not to be conformed to the world's way of thinking
or living, but we are to be transformed by the renewing of our
minds, so that we may know what is the will of God". (paraphrased).
We need to keep our children protected from the influences of
the world until such times as their minds are strong and have
been programmed to think biblically. Then they can understand
for themselves the rationale and credence of what the Bible teaches
concerning human behaviour and the eternal consequences of the
decisions we make.
As parents we are responsible to protect our children from physical,
emotional, psychological and spiritual harm. Do not underestimate
the tremendous damage that is done to our children when they
are allowed to get involved in situations and are exposed to
influences that are fundamentally anti Christ.
Q: How popular is the ACE curriculum?
A: ACE is the most distinctive Christian curriculum
available today because of its unique methodology and philosophy.
But here are some statistics:
There: are:
8000 schools worlds wide
in
135 different countries
on
4 continents
with
1,000,000 students |
